You are reading this review because you can’t imagine anyone writing a book about starting seeds indoor. Put a seed in a pod, water it, and then stare at it wondering why it’s not growing. Done that!There are ten chapters in this book. Did you know that you can’t do all seeds indoors? Sure you did. Quiz, name them. You can’t. Great information here and it explains my seed failures. Incidentally, I’ve done gardens for thirty years.The chapter on soil was an eye opener. You know when you buy those plant containers at the big box store and has those tiny white styrofoam balls in it? Not styrofoam. The author explains exactly what it is.Did you know you can make starter potting soil at home? No, it’s not just dirt. It contains vermiculite, peat moss, and other ingredients. I didn’t realize what was in it. Again, I’ve done gardening for over thirty years. Making your own hands on is more satisfying than buying that expensive bag with unknown ingredients!I had no idea certain seeds need “nicked” before you plant them. I had no idea the depth that you plan to seed is vital to its success. There is so much detail on seeds it’s amazing. The author lists just about everything with more than you need info to have a successful indoor/starter garden.It’s amazing, but this book which I thought would be a horrible boring book was fascinating. Seeds breath? Yeah, chapter seven!Chapter four, “Romaine Calm!” Lists all the mistakes that you have probably made trying to start seeds. Solutions are included and I wish I would have read and followed this guide years ago.The author did an amazing job writing this book. There was a ton of research done and it’s easy to understand and follow. At first, the “fun facts” included in each chapter reminded me of an educational study book. I hated them at first. As I read each chapter, the “fun facts” actually began to grow on me and I went back and read a few I passed over. The detail and information given is beyond what I ever expected. So many questions I never asked or thought about were answered. I don’t understand how the author could possibly cover everything, but yes, answers are there for any question you have.I’m giving this book five stars for its excellent writing and the detail included. I made a mistake buying the Kindle edition. I should have bought the soft cover copy so I have it for reference.This is a great book to use as a reference if your serous about gardening. I’m probably going to buy the soft cover for next year as I’ve already started my indoor garden with over a 50% failure rate. Highly recommend.
